Crowns (also called caps) are a covering used to encase the entire tooth to restore its function and original shape and size. They strengthen and protect the tooth structure when it can’t be restored with fillings or other types of dental restorations.
Crowns are the answer for broken, fractured, misshapen, discolored or decayed teeth, fractured or large fillings, if the tooth has had a root canal, or for cosmetic appearance.
Although crowns may be created as all metal or porcelain fused to metal, all-ceramic (porcelain) are the most popular because they best resemble the color of natural teeth.
